Loose moissanite gemstones cut in the classic round brilliant style, graded D on the colorless scale with VVS clarity and no fluorescence. Each stone is graded excellent for cut, polish and symmetry. Moissanite is silicon carbide, a lab-created gemstone that measures 9.25 on the Mohs hardness scale and carries a refractive index of 2.65 to 2.69, which is what gives it its distinctive rainbow fire. Every stone is calibrated to a standard millimeter diameter, so it seats cleanly in off-the-shelf prong, bezel, halo and solitaire mountings with no reworking of the mount. Carat figures are given as diamond equivalent weight (DEW), the industry convention for moissanite: a 6.5mm round measures the same across the top as a 1 carat diamond, though its actual weight is roughly 10 to 15 percent lighter because silicon carbide is less dense than diamond. Available sizes: 4mm at 0.30 carat DEW, 5mm at 0.50 carat DEW, 6.5mm at 1.00 carat DEW, and 8mm at 2.00 carat DEW. Suited to engagement ring center stones, solitaire pendants, stud earrings, halo settings, and repair or replacement work on existing pieces. Sold as a loose stone only.
